General Description

History

Guidance and Psychological Counseling Program is one of the program in Faculty of Education, Department of Educational Sciences. The program started to admit students in 2000-2001 academic year to train psychological counselor for being recruited in state and private institutions.

Qualification Awarded

The graduates of guidance and psychological counselling program have been awarded the degree of Science in Guidance and Psychological Counselling with the title of Guidance and Psychological Counselling Teacher. The graduates work in public and private educational settings as a guidance- psychological counselling teacher, and as a psychological counsellor in public and private institutions.

Specific Admission Requirements

The students are selected by University Entrance Examination. The language of four-year training at the department is Turkish and approximately 40 students enroll the department.

The aim of guidance and psychological counselling undergraduate programme is to train specialists in guidance and counselling who work at public and private educational institutions and in public and private other institutions, who are equipped with necessary knowledge, skills, values and attitudes at to plan, apply, guide and evaluate the guidance and psychological counseling programs, to behave according to the principles, duities, rights and responsibilities of his/her profession as an individual via original scientific and academic studies.

Profile of The Programme

This is a four year program. The program includes 51 must and 7 elective courses. The courses are both theoretical and practical. There are 1 associate professor, 4 assistant professors, 2 lecturers, and 1 research assistant in the programme.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Having graduated from the programme, the graduate students will be able work at public institutions belonging to Ministry of National Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Justice and at private institutions in the area of education, health, and industry as a guidance and psychological counselling teacher or as a psychological counsellor with their Bachelor’s degrees.

The graduates of Guidance and Psychological Counselling Programme will continue to graduate programs.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Midterm examination(s), final examination, projects and presentations, and practices of counselling are used for assessment and grading according to the content of the courses.

Graduation Requirements

The programme is a four-year training. In order to be graduated from the programme the students should be successful at all the courses offered by the programme and the cumulative GPA should be minimum 2.00.

Facilities

Educational technology facilities are used in theoretical courses at the program. There are technological facilities at the classes. There is a laboratory containing two rooms in which individuals or groups can be observed through one-way mirror for doing counselling practices.
