SERVICES AND FACILITIES AT BAIBU:

The University dorms allow a maximum capacity of 1000 for boys and 1000 for girls. The fees are approximately 40-60€ monthly and paid in advance. Dorms are equipped with high quality furniture and provide easy access to departments at campus as they are located nearby. Laundry service, PC labs, canteen, barber and hairdresser is also available. There exists no kitchen in the halls of residences but there is laundry and ironing service in the dormitories.
Private dorms in the city center offer a term-based (three-four month) price, ranging between 500-1000 TL per month (400-500 €).
As the number of the students is increasing at AIBU, it is not easy to find housing at dormitories for exchange students on campus. But the city offers many options for housing.
i) You can stay in private dormitories in the city center. The rooms are generally double or triple. The fees depend on the room size and number of roommates ranging from 500-900TL per month. Most of the private dorms offer breakfast and/or dinner.
ii) You can share a flat with Turkish/other exchange students in the city center.
iii) You can rent a flat (mostly furnished) from real estate agencies. The rents range from 600-1000 TL per month depending on the size and location of the flat. You generally also need to pay for deposit and service fee to the agency.
The office provides you guidance and assistance in finding housing in a private dorm, a room in a shared flat or a rental flat. Exchange students are advised to contact the Office for detailed information about accommodation and procedures for application.
The campus offers wide range of dining facilities for students, including dining halls, cafes and restaurants. The meal served in the dining halls is usually composed of four different dishes, including soup, main dish (meat or chicken), cooked veggie, and dessert/salad/ fruit. The price of the meal is 3,5 TL (about 1 Euro) for students. Canteens are also available for breakfast, lunch and dining in the faculties. There are also many alternatives in the Student Centre located in the middle of the Campus.
· Cost of living:
The cost of living is very much dependent on individual habits and lifestyle. Average monthly living expenses of a single student (1 Euro = 5, 75TL)
• Accommodation (dormitory) – 300-400 TL /(private dormitory) – 500-1000 TL
• Local transport – 50 TL
• Study supplies (copying and etc.) – 50 TL
• Food – 300-500 TL
• Miscellaneous – 400-500 TL Total: min 1100- max 2000 TL
So, international students should expect to spend 250 to 400 euro per month.

· Medical facilities:
The University has a medical center where the students with minor illness are treated free of charge at the campus with three doctors, one dentist, one psychologist and three nurses during the workdays and workhours. The University hospital also provides health services. Yet, international students are highly advised to buy a health insurance package which covers their health expenses for examination, treatment and hospitalization that may happen during their stay in Turkey.

Although there is no airport in Bolu, Bolu is well-connected to international airports in İstanbul and Ankara:
1. Esenboğa Airport, Ankara (210 km)
2. Sabiha Gökçen Airport, İstanbul (230 km)
3. Atatürk Airport, İstanbul (270 km)
İstanbul Atatürk Airport (IST): After the passport control, following the baggage claim and customs area, you are advised to get some Turkish lira at exchange offices. If you prefer to rent a car, all agents are ready to serve you at the arrival floor. If you prefer to arrive by bus like most of our students do, follow the ‘metro station’ (subway) arrows. You should walk approximately 5 minutes to reach the station, take the metro and get off at the ‘Bus Terminal’ (Coach station); the station’s Turkish name is ‘Şehirlerarası Otobüs Terminali’(Esenler). Journey in metro takes about 20-25 minutes. Metro operates in between 06.00am-12.00pm in every 5 minutes.
After the passport control, following the baggage claim and customs area, you are advised to get some Turkish lira at exchange offices. If you prefer to rent a car, all agents are ready to serve you at the arrival floor. If you prefer to use bus, follow the ‘Shuttle Bus Service (Havataş) arrows. Daily operation times of the service is available on www.havas.com.tr. Journey to the city center takes about 45 minutes. You should get off at Long Distance Bus Terminal of Ankara- in Turkish: Ankara Şehirlerarası Otobüs Terminali (shortly AŞTİ)-which is the last stop of ‘Havaş’ bus. Journey from Ankara to Bolu takes about 2-2,5 hours depending on the traffic conditions.
If you travel from Istanbul or Ankara to Bolu by bus, there is free shuttle operating from the Bus Station to Gölköy campus in daytime (from 07.00 am till 19.00pm) Local buses, green color on two sides, provide transportation to the campus. Two lines are in operation, one just next to Bolu terminal and the other to the city center. Bus ticket for students is 2,25TL. Another way to reach the campus from the bus station is to take a taxi. It generally costs 35TL-40TL.
Note that the speed limit is 50 km/h in the municipal areas, 90 km/h in highways and 120 km/h in the tollways. The maximum speed limit in the university is 30 km/h.
In the campus area, there is a branch of Türkiye İş Bankası at the Student Activity Center as well as ATM of Ziraat Bank, Garanti bank. All credit cards are generally accepted. Western Union Money Transfer service is provided by some banks in the city center.
A Post Office (PTT), located in the student activity center also serves as a bank (PTTBank).
Social and cultural life:
Abant Izzet Baysal University campuses offer extensive social and cultural facilities. Activities such as symposia, panel, conferences, congresses, concerts, theatre shows, movies, live TV shows are also organized in the multi-purpose culture center which is located in Gölköy Campus. In the center are two main halls.
The Spring Festival of AIBU is generally held in the 3rd week of May. During the festival, a variety of concerts, theatre, dance, laser show, fireworks and exhibitions, crafts etc. are organized. Also, some famous Turkish pop stars perform live concerts during the festival.
Thanksgiving days are held at the second week of May in commemoration of Izzet Baysal, the founder of our University.

· Sports facilities:
Certain activities are held in the Sports Centre, consisting of twin dome hall, which is located in Gölköy Campus with its indoor-outdoor sport areas. A semi-olympic athletics and soccer field are in the service of our students as well. In Bolu City Campus, sport hall and soccer fields are in the service of our students. Aerobic and step courses are organized for the students and academic staff in the fitness center. A tennis court is located next to the hospital building of the Faculty of Medicine. A semi-olympic swimming pool located also in Gölköy Campus serves both to the staff and students. The facilities are in use from 9 am till 10 pm. Mountaineering and Skiing Education Centre, located on Kartalkaya is also in the service of the students and the academic staff of AIBU and other universities.
